FOSS4G PAST EVENTS

FOSS4G 2012 will feature a full week of conferences, educational sessions and social events from Monday September 10th through Saturday September 15th. You can also now register and book accommodation at the conference hotel. This is where all the conference sessions will be held, and it will be the social hub outside the sessions too, so we strongly recommend staying here to get the most out of the conference.


Workshops (10 - 11 Sep 2012)

Workshops are 3 hour hands-on experiences with participants following along with the instructor, working directly with the application under discussion. Computers will be provided. There is a separate fee for workshops. 


Technical Sessions (12 - 14 Sep 2012)

FOSS4G 2012 presentations are 25 minute talks, with 5 minute question and answer sessions at the end. Presentations cover the use or development of open source geospatial software. Anyone can can submit a presentation proposal and take part in the conference as a presenter.


Academic Sessions (12 - 14 Sep 2012)

The FOSS4G 2012 Academic Track aims to bringing together researchers, developers, users and practitioners carrying out research and development in the geospatial and the free and open source fields and who are willing to share original and recent research developments and experiences. The presentations are 25 minute talks, with 5 minute question and answer sessions at the end.


Posters (12 - 14 Sep 2012)

Posters will be exhibited in the lobby next to the exhibit area.  A presentation session will be held on Sep 13-15 to give authors the opportunity to present and discuss their papers.  Note to poster authors:  Poster boards should be 4' x 8' (1.2 x 2.4m) and can be attached using push pins.


CodeSprint (15 Sep 2012)

A code sprint is usually organized by a group that is using an open source project and wants to see something done. They fly the developers to a single location and feed them for a day with the necessities of the hacking life (internet, caffeine, electricity). You may add your project/idea or add yourself to an existing project at linkWe will hold Code Sprint at LREIS from 9AM to 5PM on Sunday, 16 Sep 2012 (the day after the conference). For more information, please contact foss4g2012@lreis.ac.cn.


Social Events

Attendees of FOSS4G 2012 will be treated to an exciting Social Program, including an Opening Ceremony, Welcome Reception. A complete description of the congress Social Program will be available shortly. After the conference, the attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the history and culture.
